Shutter speed

Shutter speed describes the exposure time of the camera which is the length of time which a camera's shutter is open.  The shutter speed determines the amount of light that reaches the film.  The exposure is measured in EV (exposure value) which can represent a halving or doubling of the exposure.  The shutter speed can change the way movement appears in a picture. A very short shutter speed can be used to capture fast moving subjects while a long shutter speed are used to intentionally blur fast moving subjects for an artistic effect. Short shutter speeds can be called fast and long shutter speeds can be called slow.

A long shutter speed.  Intentionally blurs moving objects to create a sense of movement.
