Luois-Jacques-Mande Daguerre was a famous French artist and photographer, known especially for his invention of the daguerretype process of photography. He was born in Cormeilles-en Parisis, Val-d'Oise, France. He originally apprenticed in Architecture, Theatre Design and panoramic painting with Pierre Prevost, the first French panorama painter. He became so talented in his skill for theatrical illusion, that he became a celebrated designer for the theater and later came to invent the diorama which opened in Paris in 1822. Daguerre first invented the "daugurretype" in 1839 after years of experimentation. The French Academy of Sciences announced the invention on January 7, later that year. By August 19, 1839 the French Government announced the invention to be a gift and was available to the public.Daguerre received a pension from the government for use of the patent. He later died on July 10, 1851.
